Welcome!

Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to meet and talk with Jaime Hoyle, Executive Director over the VA Board of Counseling, on Friday 9/16.
The Licensure Discipline Process

NVLPC is the professional organization for all people in or training to join the counseling profession in Northern Virginia.

Our members consist of LPC's, counseling residents, counseling students, and others who work as mental health professionals in Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland.

Our regular breakfast programs each month offer LPC's an easy way to earn CE's, and give all our members time to meet and greet their professional and student peers, and learn something interesting.

We also have support for those who are working their way toward licensing.  You have questions, NVLPC Resident Support Groups have answers.

As a counseling student, we were all advised to join a professional association for our own benefit, and for the benefit of our profession.  NVLPC is where you belong.

Join us!

Message from the NVLPC President
Letter from the Leadership

Hello NVLPC members,

As the newly elected President of NVLPC, I would like to say thank you to everyone who participated in our recent elections.  I am looking forward to working alongside my fellow 2016-2017 officers: Renae Smith, Tracey Guard, and Maria McCabe (VP, Secretary, and Treasurer, respectively).  We have several other volunteers working in positions vital to our very existence and, of course, our growth.  They are as follows: Shulamit Widawsky (Communications Director); Maya Georgieva (Membership Director AND Resident-in-Counseling Support Group); Durriya Augelli (Events Committee); Kellie Tucker (Student Development Chair); Sharon Watson (Supervision Chair); Yashika Neaves (Workshop Chair); Aileen Elsaesser (Resident-in-Counseling Support Group); Steve Zappalla (NBCC Liaison); Kristin Rosenthal (Newsletter); and, of course, John-Mike Nelson (Past President).  We also have an awesome administrative support staff this year including Sheila White (Website support); and Kate Yuetter (our new Administrative Assistant).

Our first order of business is to bring our mission and guiding principles to life.  Our mission: To meet the professional needs of counselors, counseling residents and counseling students in Northern Virginia, so that we may effectively contribute to the mental health and general welfare of our community.

Based on our mission, our guiding principles are as follows:

  • To ENGAGE by facilitating a networking system for members to develop collegial relationships in order to share information and ideas.
  • To ENHANCE our professional and ethical competence by promoting and providing high quality and affordable continuing education for the ultimate benefit of our clients.
  • To ENCOURAGE by providing guidance to counseling students and residents in counseling as they transition toward licensure.
  • To ENLIGHTEN by increasing public recognition of the counseling profession and by collaborating with other professional organizations as they advocate for issues and legislation that impacts our profession.

We have several excellent CE Breakfast Programs already scheduled for this year, so please refer to our calendar of events on the NVLPC website for additional information and to register to attend.  We hope to see you at some (or many?) of our upcoming events.

Sincerely,

Sandra Molle, LPC

NVLPC President
