Dina Abou-El-Haj Karam holds a Master’s degree in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech. She currently works as a mental health therapist for Fairfax County and recently started in private practice in Vienna, VA. Dina work primarily with adults on issues of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem, relationship issues, and issues related to cultural transition and identity. Dina also speaks Arabic.

Jacquie Armstrong was born and raised in Baltimore, MD where she completed her graduate studies with an MS in Applied Psychology from the University of Baltimore and a Post-Master's Certificate in Clinical Community Counseling from the Johns Hopkins University. She recently obtained licensure in Maryland and Virginia.

Jacquie worked as a clinician at Johns Hopkins while living in Maryland. Upon moving to Virginia in August 2008, she began practicing at the Woodburn Center for Community Mental Health where she works primary with children, adolescents, and their families. In September 2009, Jacquie began a fellowship in psycho­dynamic therapy with children at the Baltimore Washington Center for Psychoanalysis and the Infant and Young Child Mental Health Seminar at the Washington School of Psychiatry.

Jane Ashley’s first career was as a newspaper journalist at four newspapers including USA Today and The Washington Post. She has worked as a counselor since 1991. In 1996, she founded The Center for Well Being, a private practice that now includes five licensed psychotherapists and six resident counselors working toward licensure. Jane’s counseling approach is narrative therapy. Her narrative training at the Evanston (Ill.) Family Therapy Center included intensives with Michael White, the founder of the narrative therapy movement. Jane coordinates a narrative peer supervision group twice a month at her offices in Falls Church City.

Julie Day is a LPC working in a Community MH Center. She graduated from Marymount University with a MA in Counseling Psychology, and a Graduate Counseling Certificate. Julie has worked for the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board for more than six years. She specializes in Co-Occurring Disorders. Prior to this she managed an adolescent drug and alcohol program (SAFE) for court ordered youth.

Nina Flowers received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from San Diego State University in 1982 and her Master’s Degree in Education (Counseling & Development) at George Mason University in 2000. Her internship was accomplished at George Mason University’s Counseling and Learning Center. While preparing for licensure she spent 4 ˝ years counseling for an agency providing home-based services, which proved to be a wonderful learning experience. She obtained her counseling license in July 2005 and opened her private practice on August 1, 2005.

Donna Fortney is an Imago Relationship Therapist in Centreville and Arlington. She works with a singles, couples (gay/lesbian and heterosexual), siblings, parent/adolescent, and blended families. She focuses on pre-marital counseling, infidelity, sexual difficulties, separation and divorce, communication skills, AD/HD, and trauma. Modalities include: Voice Dialogue, Emotional Freedom Techniques, EMDR, and Solution Oriented Brief Therapy. She is a volunteer mental health provider with the American Red Cross.

Laura Knight is a therapist with Prince William County Community Services in Woodbridge, where she works with adults with serious mental illness. She graduated from the Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Virginia in May 2008. Prior to graduate school, she worked at a special education school with children and teens with autism and other developmental disorders. Laura is currently working towards licensure.

Lois Mitchell has been in private practice in Woodbridge since 2006 and specializes in working with couples and individuals using a developmental and attachment framework. Trained as a Counselor at GMU, where the focus was Cognitive and Behavioral, Lois finds that working holistically—integrating thoughts, feelings, physical and behavioral aspects of life—has made a difference in my practice and my understanding. She enjoys her clients, and she learns from each one of them. She has been married for 40 years, raised two daughters who are now independent, and she stays attached to family, to the place where they were born, and to their own goals. Her goals are to remain engaged with family and community through her work and leisure. She loves to read, take long walks, and watch movies and garden.

Bob Molloy’s speciality: Psychology of Personal Organizing. Therapist since 1980, Organizer, Performance Coach since 2001, earned a BA in geography from UCLA, and a MA in psychology from Pepperdine University. Did advanced graduate work at the University of Nebraska in educational psychology, and is a graduate of the Coaches Training Institute (CTI). Experience includes counseling and performance management coaching, EAP, ADD, family therapy, and group work in anger management, substance abuse, and communications. Joan has been in private practice in McLean, VA since 1992. She has a general adult practice with emphasis on family context and family of origin history. She uses EMDR and other right-brain practices to heal any old traumas that cause problematic defenses. She has a background in  addiction treatment and often works to assist families who have an addicted member to get that person into treatment.

Robin is a Marriage and Family Therapist that recently moved to Virginia via London and California. A graduate of Boston College, she is pursuing a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision through Capella University. Robin volunteers as a facilitator of a pet loss support group in Ashburn and is beginning her search for a PhD practicum site.

Jennifer Riordan was a Teacher of the Deaf for 5 1/2 years after college. She earned an MA in special education and wrote a book, They Can Sing Too, about using music to enhance the speech of deaf children. After raising two daughters, she went back to school and earned her MEd in Mental Health Counseling. Jennifer is an LPC in private practice in Springfield, specializing in Mood Disorders, Gifted adults/adolescents, Substance Abuse, ACOA issues, Imago couples counseling, family counseling, PTSD/trauma/CISM.

Loretta Rowe specializes in anger management at the Anger & Stress Management Center, a private practice which she opened in 1996 in Fairfax City. She developed the Anger Awareness Program which she presents through both individual counseling sessions and periodic workshops at her office. She also presents anger workshops for Fairfax County Public Schools Adult Education Programs. She obtained her MA in Counseling Psychology from Marymount University in 1991 and interned at The Women’s Center with which she was associated for many years.

Lamieh Salimi is a licensed professional counselor and a trained mentor coach. She received her doctorate in counselor education from University of Florida, and has over 25 years of teaching and counseling experience. Loretta Schulz maintains a private practice in Fairfax. She earned her master’s degree in counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Her practice focuses on women’s issues, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, cross-cultural marriage and family issues. She also works with trauma, using EMDR, CBT, Play Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy. She provides services to individuals, couples, families, and children as young as three years old.

Amy Stephens, runs the group for recent graduates or counselors who are about to take the LPC exam. Please email her with your general availability for 2009/10. She will offer Saturday groups if there is enough interest. She is also the Clinical Coordinator for Marymount University’s Counseling program and Partner/Counselor at The Center for Well Being, PLLC, in Falls Church City (www.cwb-counseling.com).  Much of Amy's recent clinical focus has been in couples counseling and supervision.

Jama Thurman has been in private practice in Manassas since 2004. She specializes in Christian counseling, and enjoys working with teens and adults who are stressed and depressed and have sleep issues. She received her master’s degree in counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary and her bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Illinois. Her technical background as an engineer has also served her well in creating her website (www.lifechanginggrowth.com) and in business development.

Deborah Vaughan is in private practice at Falls Church Counseling LLC. She specializes in working with children (ages 4 to 18) and families coping with anger, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, ADHD, and separation and divorce. Deborah uses Sand Tray World Play as one mode of therapeutic work with children and adults. Her collection of miniature World Play figures includes hundreds of figures.
